Hi all. As the usage of Mac OS Catalina and installations of SPSS ramp up over the exam period we have started to encounter one or two licensing and other complications occurring when installing SPSS 26 on Apple’s newest Mac OS.
A lot happened behind the scenes in the move from Mojave to Catalina – of particular interest, that relate to issues with SPSS, is the increased security Catalina has on the Documents, Downloads, & Desktops folders and any externally connected drives. This means that Catalina will block you from saving to any of those locations when using SPSS 26. It also means if you try to open a file all you will see is a blank area where files usually appear.
If you are installing SPSS 26 for the first time on Catalina you may also have trouble licensing your product. Fortunately there are a few things that you can do to help:

Edit 22/06/20: IBM has a comprehensive article for running SPSS on Catalina, it also includes links to interim fixes for re-licensing SPSS 24 & 25 not covered here. (link will take you to an external webpage)
Earlier I mentioned changes made in Catalina – this includes ending all support for 32bit applications this means you won’t be able to install, license or re-license earlier versions of SPSS as all of the previous license wizards are 32bit applications.
IBM SPSS Statistics is a reliable application with powerful features, a solid architecture, plus comprehensive menu and navigation commands.
This data analyzer is a versatile instrument with a great and super-responsive GUI. It allows you to better understand your data, manage large datasets, solve extremely difficult research problems, and generate reports for understanding complex patterns.
The program is super large in size and comes packed with a lot of resources. You can start using it right away or browse the sample files (usually located in C:Program FilesIBMSPSSStatisticsSubscriptionSamples) to learn the tool's ins and outs. Moreover, you have available plenty of video tutorials and walk-through guides.
IBM SPSS Statistics has plenty of options for performing advanced data analysis, such as tools for statistical procedures (for great accuracy and quality data interpretation), options for integration with open-source software via Python or R, flexible deployment features, extension addition, and many others.
Among the tool's top sections, we can distinguish ten different ones. The first three — File, Edit, View, and Data — are for managing datasets, adding new ones, and configuring visualization options. The 'Transform' tab is for computing variables, recording samples, and, more generally, for adjusting your data parameters.
The powerful 'Analyze' option is for creating simulations and finding different data patterns. Also, the 'Graphs' and 'Utilities' features allow creating graphical data representations, respectively, generating XML models, running scripts, or accessing the OMS identifiers and control panel.
Last but not least, the 'Extension' and 'Window' features are for customizing the split-screen display, changing the syntax model, accessing the extension hub, or customizing the Extension Dialog Builder's default functions.
All things considered, the tool presents itself as a really powerful program with a lot of options, suitable for personal use, academic purposes, business needs, and teamwork (that involves collaborating with team members while working on large data analysis projects, and sharing knowledge).
IBM SPSS Statistics also offers a convenient model. Basically, when purchasing the app you become an authenticated user; this means one can install the tool on multiple laptops and desktop devices (on Windows or macOS), log in, and get access to your preferences and data.
